Minutes – October 2022
Members Present:
Scott Elliott (President), Charles Newcomb (Treasurer), Randy Haight (Secretary), Gary Overby (Chaplain), Al Baker, Keith Bickley, Mel Howell.
President Scott Elliott gaveled the meeting to order.
Gary Overby led the opening prayer.
Mel Howell led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Randy “Doc” Haight led the SAR Pledge.
Officer’s Reports:
President
President Elliott presented Mel Howell with the SAR Bronze Award for his efforts in support of America 250.
President Elliott advised that a new member, Alex will be presented with his membership certificate at November’s meeting. It is hoped that members of his family will also attend and we look forward to welcoming the new member to the Delta Chapter.
The President met with a local business in Modesto on Wednesday, October 12th to present them with a SAR flag certificate in recognition of their business’ American Flag which is flown 24/7 in front of their business. The flag is approximately thirty-eight feet long and twenty feet tall and sits at the top of an eighty foot pole.
Also present at the ceremony was Delta Chapter member and former registrar, Ed Smith.
President Elliott noted that the Delta Chapter will host Dr. Matthew Bowdish at the November meeting, and he will provide a presentation on the Medical History of George Washington.
Treasurer
Treasurer Charles Newcomb provided the results of his research into the Chapter’s Liability Insurance, as had been requested in the September meeting. The Treasurer also reported that after paying our premium of $650. for liability insurance, the Chapter’s current balance was $8400.
Secretary
Secretary Randy “Doc” Haight reviewed the minutes of the September meeting.

New Business
Gary Overby provided information on the upcoming Wreaths Across America project. Gary provided information on how Delta Chapter members can order Wreaths online, noting that for every wreath purchased by our members, $5.00 will be returned to the Delta Chapter. This purchase is also tax deductible. Purchases can be made from the home page of “Wreaths Across America” located at:

Those who do purchase wreaths should include our “Group Code” when prompted which is CA0112P.
The Delta Chapter plans on participating this year at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on December 17th. Information will be provided to all members who wish to participate before the event.
President Elliott was contacted by a teacher at Enochs High School, Modesto wishing to partner with the Delta Chapter. This would involve his oratory students providing presentations to the Chapter who will judge them. President Elliott asked the members if we would be willing to judge these presentations and provide a cash award for the winners; $200 for First Place; $100 for Second Place; and $50 for Third Place and this was unanimously agreed upon by members present.
Presentation
Chapter Member Mel Howell provided an informative presentation on how General Washington fed the Continental Army while they were in winter quarters at Valley Forge.
Gary Overby led the closing prayer.
President Elliott led the SAR Recessional.
